Assistant District Attorney (FOIL Unit/Appeals Bureau)

The Nassau County District Attorney’s Office (NCDAO) is seeking a full-time Assistant District Attorney to work primarily on Freedom of Informatoin Law (FOIL) matters. Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) experience, as well as document review/production, welcomed. The opportunity to work on criminal appellate matters may also be available based on the needs of the Office. Although this is a full-time, in-person position, remote work one day a week may be possible, depending on work assignment.

Required Qualifications:
* Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school;
* current New York State Bar member in good standing;
* NYS resident as of the effective date of employment with NCDAO;
* prior experience and/or knowledge of FOIL and/or FOIA:
* scrupulous attention to deadlines and details;
* personable in interactions with legal and non-legal staff;
* two-year commitment to employment with NCDAO.

Preferred Qualifications:
* document review/production experience;
* experience with Adobe Acrobat Pro or similar PDF readers, Word, Excel, document review software, and electronic databases;
* strong legal research, writing, and technology skills;
* demonstrated interest in criminal law or appellate work, although not required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
* processing FOIL requests;
* corresponding with requestors about the status and progress of their FOIL requests;
* keeping track of deadlines;
* contacting bureaus with responsive documents and following up;
* using case management and other internal systems to record and track requests;
* reviewing and supervising the work of non-attorney staff; 
* redacting records;
* preparing records for production; and
* conducting legal research and writing. 

Salary Range: $93,784 - $124,371 (Commensurate with experience).
